Memo from President Duane
O'Neill
Today I am yielding my Chamber Confidential space to our Chairman Emeritus, Bill Farmer. Bill has set an exemplary model for community involvement and leadership. No matter what corner of this earth his journey takes him, Bill will always be a dear friend and someone we hope comes back home to visit us. Memo from Chairman-Emeritus Bill Farmer
I announce to you today that I have received a job offer from Time Warner Cable that I have accepted. Therefore, I will be leaving Jackson by the end of August. This senior level position, Vice President of Corporate Development, is located in the corporate offices in Charlotte, NC. I will be working with the Carolina divisions to lobby, develop public policy, and expand Time Warner’s reach statewide in economic development, education, and the communities. I will also be working on diversity issues within the divisions. In short, this is the dream job I have worked and trained for all of my life. I feel strongly that my work with the Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce, MEC, Momentum Mississippi, the Metro Jackson Economic Development Alliance, and other community organizations helped position me for this job with Time Warner Cable. The Jackson business community welcomed me with open arms from the beginning, and my proudest moment was leading the delegation to Richmond to explore future opportunities for the metro area. While North Carolina is my home state, I truly feel I am leaving home. Mississippi is proving her strength daily through the handling of the disaster of Katrina and stands ready for a remarkable future. I will always applaud and support the State and the wonderful people who live here. It is also important to me that you to know this move is strictly my choice. I was ready and eager to work for Comcast, but this opportunity was one I could not turn down. I believe that Comcast will be good for the metro area. Their decision to increase their business presence in the State speaks volumes to the fact that economic development is thriving. The cable system in the metro area is one of the most sophisticated in the country, and it was built and is managed by committed and talented local employees. This also speaks to the workforce available in central Mississippi. I have the deepest respect for all of you who have supported and befriended me during my tenure here. And remember – I am only an email or phone call away and would like to keep in touch. Rest assured that I will be reading the Clarion Ledger every morning as I prepare for my day. I wish for all of you much success. Continue to be the best that you can be. Colts vs. Saints The NFL is back in Jackson. Come to Memorial Stadium in Jackson to see the Saints play the Colts!
