Memo from President Duane
O'Neill
Many changes are taking place as a result of the Chamber's new strategic plan. Over the next couple of weeks, I will devote this column to the priority issues and programs identified by your board of directors. These topics will include LeFluer Lakes, the Airport Parkway, Downtown Revitalization and new approaches in Regional Economic Development. Today's subject is Leadership Jackson. Leadership Jackson has been and continues to be a flagship program of our organization. It is currently planning its 20th Anniversary Celebration. Outstanding leadership training and building of meaningful relationships have been the hallmarks of this program. However, circumstances change with time. We operate in an environment that is much different today than the one of twenty years ago. Thus the Chamber Board and the Leadership Jackson Board have decided that our award-winning program also needs to "evolve" in order to meet the new challenges facing the area. Most notably, Leadership Jackson will now become MetroJackson Leadership. The sessions will not only train individuals for leadership, but will also do the preparation from the paradigm of a regional prospective. This new approach will better prepare individuals to meet the real life scenarios of our community. Today’s leaders need to be able to understand the “regional” implications of nearly every decision they make. Our new MetroJackson Leadership program will offer participants insight on the complexity of leadership in a community with multiple jurisdictions. Programming will be focused on actual issues that beg for real life answers in our tri-county community today. These issues include economic development, public safety, waterfront development, improving quality of life, and using our diversity as a positive in building a stronger economic base. This "new" approach in the leadership program will clearly have a regional mindset to the content of the monthly sessions. With this content offering, we anticipate and hope for an equally regional geographic mix of participants in the class composition. This is a great program that has just gotten better. As a MetroJackson Chamber, we now have a MetroJackson Leadership Program. It is going to be exciting and rewarding. If you are interested in participating or nominating someone for the class, please click on the following link below. If you need more information please contact us at the chamber office. Whether you are already an established leader, or a person wanting to get involved--don’t miss this stimulating opportunity!
