Membership Achievements

The Membership Department is the central piece that connects all departments of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership .  Our members are the key to the strength and success of the Metro Chamber, and great effort is made to ensure that the Chamber provides valuable benefits to our members for their investments.

As one of the most active volunteer groups the Ambassador Council, which is organized by the Membership Department, attend practically every function and event with which the Chamber is involved.  From Grand Openings to special receptions to award programs, the Ambassadors help strengthen the presence of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership .

The Ambassador Council continues to grow each year, with currently 100 volunteers.  Each year the Ambassadors gain points for the different events they participate in which allows them the opportunity to be on the Chairman’s Council.  The Chairman’s Council is made up of Ambassadors in the top 15% in number of points earned throughout the year.  These individuals are asked to be on the Chairman’s Council and will receive a piece of Gail Pittman pottery.  From the Chairman’s Council the Ambassador of the Year will be chosen and announced at the Annual Meeting.  The Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership would like to extend special thanks to the Ambassador Council and would like to recognize those who will be honored on the Chairman’s Council for 2005.

Leadership Jackson Update

Shirley Tucker, Executive Director

Leadership Jackson Helps With Katrina Efforts

As a part of the Leadership Jackson experience, current class participants are assigned to Community Action Team projects (CAT) each year.   The experience is to allow members the opportunity to examine their own attitudes and develop strategies for more effective leadership by being directly involved in the local community.

Modified slightly, this year’s projects will focus only on Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. The thirty-two-member group has been divided up evenly to tackle areas of education, tutoring, employment, housing, resource and information, and long-term assistance.

While May 2006 is anticipated as the completion of each project, the teams will convene in January at the mid-year retreat to report on their progress.

Under Shauna Yeldell’s administration, the Leadership Jackson Alumni has adopted the same concept of helping with Hurricane Katrina efforts.  LJA teamed up with the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership and the Mississippi Department of Employment Security to assist with employment needs of the evacuees.  Members of LJA visited several area shelters and churches and helped distribute and complete employment applications. As a result, local employers hired twelve evacuees.

Go Leadership!

Leadership Jackson alumni members Ann Barnes (left) and Tish Hughes meet with hurricane evacuees at First Baptist Church of Brandon.

Alumni member Tanya Ross assists a hurricane evacuee with his job application at New Horizon Church in Jackson.  About 12 evacuees have found jobs as a result of Leadership Jackson's efforts.
