History
The Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership is a nonprofit
organization originally chartered on August 28, 1889, as the
Jackson Board of Trade and Cotton Exchange. The organization was
established by business and professional men in the city of
Jackson to promote interests beneficial to individual businesses
and to the city as a whole. On September 12, 1921, the Jackson
Board of Trade changed its name to the Jackson Chamber of
Commerce. The Chamber incorporated on January 26, 1933. While
the Chamber was formed primarily to serve the city of Jackson,
the needs of our Chamber members changed over the past 114
years. The Jackson Chamber of Commerce became the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership in 1992 and expanded its boundaries to cover
all of Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties.
The reorganized MetroJackson Chamber does not function as an
umbrella for chamber efforts in the tri-county area, but rather
as a partner to these other programs. The Metro Jackson area has
within it 10 chartered chambers of commerce.
In our 114th year, the MetroJackson Chamber boasts more than
1,600 members—ranging from small, mom-and-pop businesses to
large, international corporations. Currently, there are 18 staff
members at the Chamber, and 56 business leaders comprise the
board of directors. The Chamber is fully funded by Chamber
membership investments, special events, and programs that
compliment our goal of being the voice of business for the
recount metropolitan area. |
