A
Letter of Welcome from the Chamber President
As the largest metropolitan community in Mississippi, Metro
Jackson offers an unbeatable combination of economic,
educational, and cultural opportunities-along with southern
hospitality-to those who visit, as well as to the individuals
and families who call our area home.
Let me be the first to welcome you to Metro Jackson.
Known as the Crossroads of the South, Metro Jackson is where
people and businesses converge. We are in the geographic center
of Mississippi and the South, the center for Mississippi’s state
government, and the center for performing arts in the state, as
well as a leading center for health care, medical research, and
telecommunications. Another major event for the metro area was
the May 2003 opening of Nissan Motor Company’s new assembly
plant. This $930 million investment will produce approximately
250,000 vehicles a year.
The businesses and residents of Metro Jackson are proud of
our community, and they have good reasons:
- We are home to six four-year colleges and universities,
two community colleges, and an extensive system of public
and private elementary and secondary schools. The
prestigious Mississippi College School of Law is located
within our capital city and has donated extreme amounts of
time and energy to providing the best for all students and
the metro area. We are also home to
the University of Mississippi Medical Center, a nationally
renowned medical school and medical research facility, as
well as one of the state’s leading health care facilities.
- We are home to the Southern Farm Bureau Golf Classic, a
national PGA golf event.
- We are home to the United States International Ballet
Competition.
- In recent years, our community has showcased such
international art exhibitions as The Palaces of St.
Petersburg, The Splendors of Versailles, and The Majesty of
Spain. Also in 2004, Jackson hosted The Glory of Baroque
Dresden exhibit.
With employment levels and economic development booming, and
cultural/arts exhibitions at unprecedented levels, our community
is being recognized across the country as a strong community for
business and quality of life.
As you can see, we are proud of our community and the quality
of life it offers. We hope you will join us in that
opinion-whether as a visitor or as a potential new resident.
Contact our offices to learn more
about our area and how to become more involved.
